“Expired 600” (2009)
These are some shoots taken this year. I started to land my hand on polaroid camera back in early 2008. It was such a relieve to finally get an instant polaroid camera in cheaper price. The reason was because mine was the latest spoil-brat instant pax sold in the market.
So then I purchased mine, happily. It was good for quite some time because I could still get films easily (even though the price was pain in the ass) here in Kuala Lumpur. But after awhile, I couldn’t found any of them around. Instead, few mini shops sold the expired ones to me. And if you think that expired one is cheaper, no it is not. The shop tend to sell it $10 cheaper because usually it is still packed nicely.
Actually, getting expired polaroid is a bit of a crapshoot. It’s like putting yourself to gamble on it - it dries out after a period of time. Few year old film can be bone dry, but 30 year old film will oddly still have working developer.
But anyway, I like how unpredictable my polaroid picture could be. It’s mutated chemical has brought unexpected tones and I fall in love with it - for that reason alone.
“Smokey Haze” (2008)
These are part of early experiment to do some sort of light painting in the dark. Each of them are taken with slow shutter speed camera while the lights come from a burning cigarette. Out of many outcomes that I get, these are two pictures that I like the most. One is like a broken heart shape and the other one looks like a floating human.
